Valorisation of stranded Laminaria digitata seaweed as an insulating earth material

In Normandy, the marine macroalgae become a large problem when retreat of tide leaves quantities stranded seaweed on coast. These seaweeds can be toxic during their degradation in addition to creating odor problems. Consequently, elimination has major and recovery an emergency. this work, we proposed use building construction at scale. We investigated particular performance insulated walls based lightened earth incorporating reed Laminaria digitata different substitution level. The compressive strength hygrothermal properties specimens were carried out. Our results show that incorporation improves both its heat storage capacity level insulation without compromising strength. most efficient content for improving thermal material seems 20%. Indeed, 20% decreased conductivity by 34% 20 °C comparison with standard cob. For mixture, specific value is around 800 J.kg−1.K−1 °C, which are very high compared only earth-fiber specimen (400 J.kg−1.K−1). increases mechanical insulating cob will lead reduction thickness therefore development sustainable energy materials low environmental impact.
